If you could describe something in one image how would you do it and would you take the time to explain it?
If I could describe Rochdale town centre HONESTLY (that’s an important part) it would look like this:
Ok, so I go past this building on the way into work every morning but it wasn’t until I was sat inside JoJo’s Pizza Shop (waiting for Tom to finish eating the biggest PLAIN pizza known to man) that I turned around and saw the chimney of this building and found it a mixture of beautiful and saddening.
Ivesons (I’m presuming) used to be a big Carpet shop or factory in the town centre. I LOVE the chimney and it is clear that some proper craftmanship went into creating this building.
Sad part? It’s boarded up and falling to bits. It’s probably got at least 100 pigeons living in it right about now. Lower down on the building, a part the picture doesn’t show, is (in stereotypical fashion) the boards on the lower windows plastered with posters, some of them so outdated I’m amazed they’re still sticky enough to STAY on the boarded up windows of the building supporting my beloved chimney.
Those lights? No, I didn’t use digi-magic. This is where I’m going to get art-farty. Those lights are actually a reflection of the lights on the ceiling inside JoJo’s (I took the photograph out of the window). Now, I’m being a complete arse and probably talking out of my arse, but don’t you think it’s kindof fitting that the chimney of old, in all its beauty amongst the depravity below is framed as sort by the lights from inside a pizza shop – a very well off pizza shop no less! (it’s like a night club with pizza instead of drink in there).
Maybe it’s just me…
